The Zastava M24/47 is a bolt-action rifle first produced in 1947 for the Yugoslavian military. Made by reworking the pre-war Serbian Model 24 Mauser, this rifle is built with a hardwood stock, straight bolt handle, and bayonet. The M24/47 also features open iron sights and is chambered in 8x57mm Mauser. This M24/47 is in good condition overall, and the wood is in excellent condition. The metal has some pitting. Purchase includes a surplus sling, ammo pouches, and the original Mitchell’s Mausers box with certificate.
The M24/47 is a post-World War II update of the earlier M24. It is essentially a Mauser K98k built in Slavic regions. It is a Mauser 98 knockoff that began production in 1924 at the Kragujevac Arsenal in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia and now Serbia). Following World War II, numerous existing M24s were rebuilt with new 23.4-inch barrels and walnut, teak, or other hardwood stocks. Since the project began in 1947, the rebuilt aircraft have been dubbed M24/47s. Many of these rifles were manufactured at the Kragujevac Arsenal, which was renamed “Zastava” in the early 1950s. However, with the widespread availability of the newer standard-issue Mauser M48, the majority of the reconfigured M24/47 battle rifles saw little use.
